The Collapsing Of Chemical Relaxer Sales Confirms That The Natural Hair Trend Is Here To Stay

The Natural Hair Trend seems to be on the increase as more and more African women go “Natural” while the sale of chemical relaxers decreases.

Within a few years, the campaign for naturalization has been on the increase and more women are joining the Natural women Hair Groups.

A look at most websites and facebook pages shows  hundreds of Natural Hair Events and campaigns and many video blogs on YouTube are filled with advices on styling natural hair.

Lots of African women are now accepting themselves and their hair

The consumer research group Mintel reported that hair relaxer sales dropped from $206 million in 2008 to $152 million in 2013, while sales of products to maintain natural hair are on the rise.

“The natural hair trend is driving an increase in sales of styling products such as styling moisturizers, setting lotions, curl creams, pomades, etc.,” said Tonya Roberts, multicultural analyst at Mintel. “A look at expenditures from 2008 to 2013 shows steady growth in the Black hair care category for all categories except relaxers and perms.”
